Sadly the SSD alternative is so expensive so yeah HDD is the way to go for NAS at home but I can wait for a bit longer before I have to replace ALL of my NAS drives. (They are 8 TB each and plenty of them). Next year perhaps. We will see.

There's nothing wrong with hard drives when it comes to more economical storage option. I keep all my backups, data, DOS games and their ISos, and ISOs for emulations in my hard drives which are much much larger than my 4TB SSDs. Of course, there's no reason you should install an OS in a hdd anymore.
